I dunno about you, but I go through periods of liking nothing in beauty stores. Everything is aimed at one type of look, or my skin is too pale for that product, my skin won’t cope with that or I’m just not feeling it.
Recently, however, this has not been the case. Brands like Benefit, Clinique and Rimmel are killing it right now.
Clinique Moisture Surge
I use the tub one straight after washing my face. The instant hydration is noticeable straight away.
After drying my hair, I squirt a few pumps of the new Supercharged Concentrate to give a nice base for my make up. The lady in Debenhams did go on to explain how this works, but I was just smiling and waving through it. Just know there’s a lot of science gone into this. don’t question the science.
Rimmel Insta Flawless Perfecting Radiant Skin Tint
I use this as a primer before foundation. Lately, I’ve been mixing it in with my foundation so as to not give myself too cakey a look. Plus, with summer (kinda) here, I don’t want those cakey face sweats.
It doesn’t do much in terms of pores, however it gives me that lush slightly sun-kissed look without looking orange. Great for pale skinned people like myself. I got it in a light shade, however there is also a darker one.
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
As mentioned above, I mix this with the insta flawless. I generally only need max 2 pumps of this, as a little goes a long way. I got it in shade Ivory which might be a little too dark for me, but mixed with the primer and blended in correctly, gives that nice glowing tan look.
Benefit Quickie Contour Stick
Oh my. I snapped this baby up the day it come out. Note, that the Benefit lady in Debenhams kinda recognises me now. I think I have a problem..
Anyhoo, this is great for busy gals like myself who only have a short amount of time in the morning. I don’t do too much, just a light stroke on cheek bones, nose and forehead. I then blend it in gently so I don’t look too chiseled but you can still see definition. I’m surprised this works on my pale skin, but Benefit have done well to find a bronzer that seems to suit most skin shades.
Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil
A game changer for me. I’ve been blessed with quite fuller brows, but never been able to shape them properly. My new bff in Debenhams showed me how to “map my brows” and how quick it was with the pencil. I’m a shade number 3 and honestly think this shade suits my colouring so much. I’ve got darker hair but quite pale skin, so sometimes I can go too dark with a brow pencil, but this is the perfect mix of dark and defining whilst also being soft and light. Again, science.
Filling in your brows couldn’t be simpler. The pencil is a wind-up one with a slanted edge, meaning I use the slanted bit to shape and the flat edge to fill. Simples.
Benefit Hoola Lite
Can I get an amen for this one!! At last, a lighter Hoola!!!!
I’ve been a longtime user of the original Hoola, however whilst this shade is generally ok for most skin shades, I could only use a little at a time. Unless I wanted to go full on Oompa Loompa.
Now, with the Lite version, I apply generously to give myself that sun kissed look. I apply along the top of my contouring and then use a light dusting all over my cheeks and outline. I make sure to blend properly and not to forget my neck., especially as I am using the Rimmel bronzing stuff too, I don’t want my neck to look to pale.
Benefit Dandelion Twinkle
I LOVE the Dandelion blusher. It’s that lovely soft pink windswept blush that doesn’t make me look like a porcelain doll. So imagine my delight when Benefit announced the highlighter to go with it?! Much excite over here for this one.
It is a very subtle pink highlight, so probably best suited to paler skin shades. I have been guilty of putting too much on as I can’t see the highlight, only to find that in a different light, I’m sparkling. So only use a little, and trust that this baby will do the job.
Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka Cologne
Last, but not least is my new Jo Malone obsession. I thought nothing could take me away from my beloved Peony & Blush Suede. I asked for this for my birthday without having actually smelt it, after seeing every blogger on the planet post about it. A big gamble I’m sure you’ll agree, however I went on the words of my friend who said it was quite sweet smelling, which is totally my jam.
Ralph got me it for my birthday and I’ve worn it everyday since. For the size it’s quite pricey, but you only need one squirt a day, so I’m hoping this will last quite a while.
So that’s my round up of my faves at the moment. Let me know if you get any of these beauts as I’d love to hear your thoughts on them too.
